New Delhi: With the BJP's top leadership raising the issue of infiltration ahead of the Bihar elections, it has become quite clear that the party is going to be aggressive on the infiltration issue during their campaign.
On September 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his speech in Purnea, Bihar, raised the issue of infiltration and a change of demography in Seemanchal region. Modi had said the NDA government is determined to make Bihar, West Bengal and Assam free from infiltrators.
On Thursday, Union home minister Amit Shah also raised the issue of infiltration and attacked the Congress-led Opposition of trying to include infiltrators in the state voters' list and passing on the benefits of government schemes to those who came from Bangladesh, robbing the rights of the real Biharis.With two of the top senior leaders focusing on the issue, this is likely to be a key issue for the BJP in the Bihar election campaign.
This is for the first time that the BJP is playing aggressively on infiltration issue in a state where caste usually plays a vital role. The BJP played on the infiltration pitch in West Bengal during the 2021 assembly elections, which helped it become the leading Opposition in the state.
In the 2024 Jharkhandelection, the party played heavily on the infiltration in the state spreading the narrative of tribal benefits being robbed by infiltrators. Unlike West Bengal, where the minority population is sizable across different parts of the state, Bihar has limited pockets with higher concentration of minority population such as Seemanchal, parts of Siwan, Gopalganj and Bhagalpur. Sources said BJP believes that it will benefit in consolidating non-minority votes in favour of the NDA.
