Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan highlighted India's approach to peace and war preparedness, as he delivered a strong speech at inaugural Tri-Services Seminar ‘Ran Samwad-2025’ at the Army War College in Mhow. India is a peace-loving nation, but cannot be pacifists, he said in his address.
“India has been the land of Gautam Buddha, Mahavir Jain, and Mahatma Gandhi - all champions of non-violence… India has always stood on the side of peace but don't mistake, we cannot be pacifists,” said CDS General Anil Chauhan.
Recalling Operation Sindoor conducted by the Army after a terrror attack in Pahalgam, he said, “Operation Sindoor was a model conflict from which we learnt a number of lessons, and most of them are under implementation. Some have been implemented. The operation is still on."
He also spoke on India's changing perspective of war and its preparedness. “How do we perceive victory is changing… In today’s warfare, the matrix of victory has changed. Effects of long-range precision strikes, display of sophistication in all domains and superior narrative are important,” said General Anil Chauhan addressing Ran Samvad-2025.
Chauhan highlighted India's need to focus on war research and self-reliance. He said that serious research is needed on all dimensions of war connected to leadership, motivation, and technology. India needs to be 'atmanirbhar' in ideas and practice, he added.
He said, "War is the broader state of armed conflict. Warfare refers to the specific methods, tactics, and strategies used to conduct a war."
