New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday announced its list of eight candidates for the assembly by-polls in UP. The party has left one seat -- Meerapur -- for alliance partner RLD as the seat was earlier held by RLD.
Ghaziabad city BJP president Sanjeev Sharma has been fielded from Ghaziabad seat. The seat was vacated after sitting MLA Atul Garg won the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP has fielded Anujesh Yadav, brother-in-law of Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav from Karhal assembly seat. Karhal has been a pocket borough of the first family of SP and by fielding Anujesh Yadav against SP candidate Tej Pratap Yadav, the BJP is trying to make it a battle within the family.
In Khair assembly seat, the party has fielded Surendra Diler, son of former Hathras MP Rajveer Diler.
The BJP and RLD together have balanced the caste equation in the ticket distribution for the by-poll. Of the nine candidates, five candidates are OBCs, three are from SC category and one from general category.
The party has fielded Suchasmita Maurya for the Majhawa seat. The seat was given to alliance partner Nishad Party during the assembly elections in 2022. In the by-poll, the party took the seat from the Nishad Party and fielded its own candidate.
RLD has fielded Mithilesh Pal from the Meerapur seat. The seat got vacant after sitting RLD MLA Chandan Chauhan won the Lok Sabha election from Bijnor.
