In a surprising turn of events at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai on Saturday, rank outsider Bishop, who went off at odds of 8-1, emerged victorious in the prestigious Zavaray S. Poonawalla Juvenile Multi-Million, the marquee event of the day’s racing card.
As the gates flew open for the six-furlong contest featuring a competitive field of 13 runners, Bishop was quick to move up among the front-runners. Foxy initially took charge and set a brisk early pace, but it was Vegata who surged ahead mid-race, appearing to have the upper hand as the finish line approached.
However, Bishop, ridden confidently by A. Prakash, launched a determined late challenge. In a nail-biting finish, the filly managed to edge past Vegata by a short neck, displaying both grit and potential in what turned out to be a thrilling battle down the final stretch.
This victory was particularly sweet for Bishop, who had been withdrawn from her previous outing. Saturday's triumph not only marked her first career win but also announced her arrival as a promising contender on the juvenile racing scene.
