Mumbai: A 19-year-old commerce student from S.K. Somaiya College, Sion, has lodged a police complaint regarding the theft of her laptop from her government-allocated residence inside the Police Commissioner’s residential quarters at LT Marg, Mumbai.
The complainant, Shreya Dnyaneshwar Deshmukh, a first-year commerce student, stated in her FIR that she had been using a black Dell Latitude 3420 laptop, issued to her on April 17, 2025, for daily academic purposes.
Laptop Was Kept in a Bag on Top of Cupboard, Says Victim
On July 18, around 11:30 AM, she completed some personal work on the laptop and stored it, along with its black adaptor, in a colored bag kept on top of a cupboard at her home at First Floor, Police Colony.
She did not use the laptop for the next two days. On the evening of July 20, at around 8:00 PM, she discovered the laptop missing when she went to retrieve it. Despite checking all areas of her house and inquiring with nearby neighbors, she found no trace of the device. Neighbors denied any knowledge of the incident.

She suspects that an unknown person may have entered her home through an open door and stolen the laptop without her consent. The Azad Maidan police have registered her complaint and initiated an investigation.
