Vembanad Railway Bridge, Kerala

Vembanad Railway Bridge located in Kochi city of Kerala state of India is the longest railway bridge in India. This bridge is 4.62 km long. Let us tell you that the construction work of this bridge was started in the year 2011 and this bridge was completely completed on 31 March 2010. At that time it was the second longest railway bridge in India, after which the Vembanad Bridge was inaugurated on 11 February 2011, after which this railway bridge was resumed for freight in January 2020 after a period of disuse of about 9 years and at present it is the longest railway bridge in India. This bridge connects Edappally and Vallarpadam city of Kochi city. The biggest feature of the Vembanad Railway Bridge is that even large sea ships can pass under this railway bridge and at present this bridge is being used completely for freight transport.

New Jubilee Bridge
The New Jubilee Bridge has been built in place of the old historic Jubilee Bridge. The old Jubilee Bridge built on the Hooghly River in 1885 is the most prominent and famous bridge in India till date. The newly built Jubilee Bridge connects Naihati and Bandel located in West Bengal. It is a cantilever truss bridge constructed exclusively by riveting. No nuts or bolts are used in its construction. The Jubilee Bridge was used by the Indian Railways for 129 years before being decommissioned on 17 April 2016. The Teesta Torsha Express was the last train that passed through it.

Konkan Railway Bridge, Maharashtra
The Konkan Railway Bridge, also known as the Zuari Bridge, is located over the Zuari River in Goa. The bridge is 1,321 metres long and is the longest railway line in the Konkan rail network. The Konkan rail network is considered one of the most attractive rail routes connecting the states of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra. At a height of 60 metres, the Konkan Bridge is the highest railway bridge in India and one of the highest bridges in Asia. The viaduct is erected on tampered and hollow, octagonal pylons constructed by employing the robust slip-form technique of continuous construction. This is the first bridge to use this technology in India.

Bogibeel Bridge, Assam
The Bogibeel Bridge built on the Brahmaputra River in the Indian state of Assam is a rail-cum-road bridge whose construction was started in the year 2002. After a long time, its construction work could be completed in the year 2018, which has been opened for traffic on 25 December 2018. Bogibeel Bridge is a welded steel-concrete bridge which is specially designed for severe earthquakes.

Havelock Bridge, Andhra Pradesh
Havelock Bridge, also known as Old Godavari Bridge, this rail bridge built on the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh is one of the oldest railway bridges in India. This rail bridge is 2.7 kilometers long. The construction of this bridge was started on 11 November 1897, after which this bridge was opened for traffic on 30 August 1900. At that time this bridge was named after the then Governor of Madras, Sir Arthur Elephant Havelock. In the year 1997, this railway bridge was decommissioned and at present it is a decommissioned railway bridge in India. This railway bridge, which started in 1900, used to serve between Howrah and Madras.

Sharavati River Bridge, Karnataka
Sharavati Bridge, which was completed in 1984, is located south of Honnavar in the state of Karnataka. It is used by the Konkan Railway to cross the Sharavati River. The 2,060-metre-long bridge is the longest bridge on the railways and also the longest bridge in the state. The total length of the bridge is 1047.65 metres and it has 34 spans. The bridge suffered corrosion over time and was rehabilitated by strengthening the hammerheads and piers through external prestressing of the main girders. Additional steel brackets were also used for the process. A load test was later carried out to ensure the effectiveness of these measures.
