Gianluigi Donnarumma has agreed personal terms with Manchester City, according to reports, but the £43m deal to sign the Italy No.1 from Paris Saint-Germain could still be derailed if Pep Guardiola ’s side are unable to seal the departure of Ederson.
And with the recently returned James Trafford struggling to impress in Saturday’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, City appear to be in a stronger mood to strengthen.
A visibly emotional Donnarumma appeared to bid farewell to PSG supporters after Friday night’s 1-0 win against Angers, where he was an unused substitute. Paris boss Luis Enrique has made it clear that summer arrival Lucas Chevalier, who was signed from Lille, is their first choice stopper, leaving Donnarumma to search for a new club.
Enrique last week described Donnarumma as “one of the best goalkeepers in the world, no doubt, and even better as a person” but said the decision to move on from him was made for tactical reasons.

Manchester United, who are also badly in need of a new goalkeeper, were briefly linked with a move for Donnarumma only for that interest to quieten.
Now City look to be in pole position to acquire the big stopper – once Brazil international Ederson can leave. Galatasaray have shown keen interest in his signature but a deal is nowhere near completion.
Discussing his current goalkeeping options on Saturday, Guardiola refused to point the finger of blame at Trafford for their 2-0 loss to Spurs with the Englishman looking nervy with the ball at his feet and a mistake leading to their visitors' second.
"James made a good first game and I decided to continue [with him]," said Guardiola, explaining Trafford's selection.
"The keeper is a special position, of course, to have more consistency in the goal. When I take decisions in the first part of the season for all the players who play one or two games, everyone thinks 'OK this is the starting line-up, these are the players who are going to play', but with these amount of games, everyone will play. It was just today I decided that."
