Inside abandoned 'zombie apocalypse' college full of preserved animals and human body parts

A series of disturbing images have captured the haunting remains of an science college - still housing preserved , skeletons, and even a preserved uterus.

The eerie site in the southeastern US, which once served a community for over a century, now appears frozen in time from the moment it was deserted, resembling the fallout from a . With no former employees or having returned to collect their belongings, the building still contains an array of fascinating objects and specimens.

Among these are hundreds of books in the library sitting unused, decaying dorm rooms, empty offices with scattered paperwork, and textbooks strewn across the worktops of former classrooms.

The images also show several bottles of chemicals, including chloroform, picking up dust on the shelves - with expensive science equipment once used by students left to rot. In one lab, a skinless preserved rat or mouse is seen curled up inside a clear container surrounded by scientific equipment.

Other glass jars scattered across the building contain a number of preserved animal specimens including frogs, snakes, fish, birds and tarantulas. The most shocking specimen amongst them is a preserved human uterus.

The creepy photos were captured by urban explorer Leland Kent, also known online as 'Abandoned Southeast' in the USA.

The institution was found to have served a thriving community for over 100 years, offering students the chance to study an undergraduate degrees in several subjects, before poor management and financial trouble led to its heartbreaking closure.

Leland said: "For more than a century, this small institution offered undergraduate degrees in various subjects including liberal arts, education, business, and science.

"In recent years, the school suffered a series of deficiencies and violations, among them the lack of financial stability and a lack of staff with high-level degrees. The school was placed on probation and given several years to fix its mistakes.

"However, years of economic mismanagement, rising debts, and a dwindling enrollment led to the school losing its accreditation. Shortly afterwards, the campus quietly closed down. Now, for more than a decade, the buildings have sat dormant awaiting a new life."

Responding to the photos on Abandoned Southeast, one user said the site has enough potential to offer residents low income housing. They wrote: "Wow, so many things that could have been sold, so many drugs that should have been destroyed, but worse than that, this would have been a perfect place to turn into low income housing or something."
