Kings of Leon cancel all UK and Europe dates as singer suffers 'freak' injury

Rock bandhave been forced to cancel some of their upcoming UK and European shows. Singer Caleb Followill posted an emotional message to the band's fans as he revealed he has suffered a serious injury.

Frontman Caleb said: "Hello to everyone out there, especially our European fans that are preparing to come and see us this summer. Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that those shows will have to be cancelled due to a freak accident that happened to other day.

"I broke my foot pretty bad when playing with my kids," he said. "It was pretty gnarly and I will spare all the details. We are fortunate enough to have some great doctors here in Nashville that gave me emergency surgery."

The singer continued: "I am on the mend but they told me that I can't be on my feet or travelling for the next eight weeks or so. It is a big bummer man, we were so excited. We were preparing for a long time."

Caleb added: "In the meantime we are going to do whatever work we can while I have these limitations. Exciting things are coming. I know this isn't what people want to here and it isn't the message I want to be sending."

He ended his message: "Wish us luck," before showing his foot in a large cast.

Kings of Leon were due to perform at Blackweir Fields, Cardiff and Lytham Festival, Lancashire. Other shows in Europe included dates in Zagreb, Madrid and Lisbon.

The band said in a statement: "The Kings of Leon are updating fans that Caleb Followill has recently sustained a serious injury, shattering his heel and requiring a significant emergency surgery, that will prevent him from traveling and performing.

"The anticipated recovery process is expected to take 8 weeks under strict guidance of expert orthopedic specialists. The band regrets to report that they will need to cancel all upcoming UK and European festival shows in June and July of this year."

- composed of brothers Caleb, Jared and Nathan Followill along with cousin Marrow Followill - were in the UK for their arena tour.

They have been on the music scene since 2003, topping the charts in the UK six times with their albums and with their huge Number One hit single Sex on in 2008.

During their past stint in the UK, They have been around for a similar amount of time - landing on the music scene in 2004 with all seven of their albums to date reaching Number in the UK, but they have never topped the UK singles chart.

Caleb and Jared appeared on and took an unexpected swipe at their fellow Americans - teasing the possibility of a secret feud.

Asked if they ever play unreleased tracks to fans before the release date, Jared told hosts and that he does sometimes test out new material on unsuspecting members of the public.

He said: “You can’t let the cat out of the bag too much. So I’ll sneak it on in, like, an Uber or at a party or something. You put the aux on and just play a new song. And it’s a good way to get boots on the ground intel.”

The musician then smirked: “If they think it’s good I’ll tell them after ‘Maybe that was us.’ And if they don’t like it, I’ll tell them it’s the new Killers song.”

The cancelled shows include:

June 13th – O Son do Camino, Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

June 16th – Hessentag, Bad Vilbel, Germany.

June 22nd – La Prima Estate 25, Lido di Camaiore, Italy.

June 24th – INmusic festival, Zagreb Croatia.

June 27th – OpenAir, St. Gallen, St. Gallen, Switzerland.

June 29th – Blackweir Fields, Cardiff, UK.

July 2nd – Lytham Festival, Lancashire, UK.

July 5th – Rock Werchter, Werchter, Belgium.

July 10th – Mad Cool Festival, Madrid, Spain.

July 12th – NOS Alive, Lisbon, Portugal.
