Lucy Letby’s life in jail has been described as "cushty" by fellow inmates as she spends her time binging on junk food and taking on new roles at the notorious prison.
The 35-year-old is understood to be one of 527 inmates at HMP Bronzefield and was fast-tracked to receiving ‘enhanced’ prisoner status when she arrived for her own protection. She is based in Unit Four andfollows a different prison life to most of the other inmates due to her status.
Letby, from Hereford, is serving a whole life order after she was convicted of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder seven more. And the way she keeps her room at the prison is very different to others, which are generally messy with inmates taking little interest in tidiness, said a prison insider.

“So many of the prisoners here don’t even know how to do the basics like change their sheets or keep things clean, but her cell is always spotless,” a prison source told the Mail. “There isn’t a thing out of place or a speck of dust, it feels eerily clean. It almost reminds me of a hospital ward. But that doesn’t feel right to say, for obvious reasons.”
A regular day at the prison typically sees the women out and about at 8am, with 9am marking the start of lessons or work. Prison guards are used to going to inmate’s rooms and waking them up but it is reported that Letby is already dressed and ready to go when she is unlocked.
With her ‘enhanced’ status she has plenty of options during the day from a beauty salon to barista training and educational workshops. The prison website states of the routine for inmates: “They will break for lunch at 12.00hrs for two hours. In the afternoon they will return to their work location. At 16.30hrs the women will return to their houseblocks for association and dinner before lock up at 18.45hrs.”

Guards at the prison have to take care who Letby meets with for her own protection, but it is reported that they allow her to mix with Beinash Batool, who was sentenced for the murder of 10-year-old stepdaughter Sara Sharif.
And the pair are said to get on well together. A Bronzefield source said: “I wouldn’t call them friends – I don’t think Lucy has any friends – but they mix a lot together. There is a bit of unspoken solidarity between them, given they are both in for such horrific crimes. Who else would mix with them?
“They both have cushty jobs with Beinash being in charge of the unit library and Lucy doing the cleaning – though this causes a bit of friction with other inmates.”
Another woman who Letby mixed with until she was recently released was Linda De Sousa Abreu - a married former prison officer who was jailed after she was filmed having sex with an inmate.
"The three of them didn’t really communicate much but they would come out and mix at the same time. Batool, De Sousa and Letby together – such a trio of misfits," reportedly said the source. "You’ve got a nurse in there for murdering babies, another child killer, then a prison officer there because she made a porn video in a prison cell, all shuffling about in a Category A prison together. Utterly bizarre."

As a high profile child murderer, Letby will be a target for other prisoners, says retired prison governor Vanessa Frake, who spent 27 years in the service often dealing with notorious and celebrity criminals.
From January to September 2024, there were a reported 243 assaults at Bronzefield alone, with 16 classed as ‘serious’.
“She will be with other like minded criminals on the vulnerable prisoner unit. She will always have to look over shoulder, she's a high profile child murderer, doesn't go down well with the rest of the population,” said Vanessa.
She has also reportedly been heard moaning that "she's the fattest she's ever been" after gorging on junk food and Quality Street chocolates paid for by her privileged jobs behind bars. Fellow lags are furious that Letby is raking in the cash through three different prison jobs - which she splurges on piles of snacks.
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror from behind the bars at Bronzefield, where Letby looks set to spend the rest of her life, one inmate said that the multiple murderer is "really pi****g off" the other women as she stuffs her face with Quality Street chocolates and crisps.
Most prisoners are lucky to be selected for one job, and an opportunity to earn cash, while Letby is flaunting the money she earns after getting three cushy jobs - two of which are the best paid inside.
Our source said that Letby is hardly ever locked in her cell. She is unable to walk the corridors of the jail alone for fears she will be attacked, so is always accompanied by a prison officer.
Some prisoners claim Letby tries to win sympathy from guards by crying at any given opportunity and fakes being nice so she gets "positive comments" which means she is then allowed even more perks.
"The staff are terrified of Lucy, and they pander to her bulls**t," our source told the Mirror.
"If she was out in general pop she wouldn't have survived. There are women here with nothing to lose, they have said they will kill her, what's one more life sentence when you're already serving life?
"There is so much hate for her here, so much hatred. But's she's not in general population, she's here in Houseblock Four and she's treated like a princess. She thinks she's Queen Bee and it's really, really annoying other prisoners because she shouldn't be treated like that, if she was a man, she'd be stuck in the general population and she'd be getting attacked all the time.
"It's an upside down world here. She just gets more and more and more. It's so wrong on every level." Letby works as a laundry worker - renowned as the best job on the wing - for which she gets around £8 a week. The laundry team are always out of their cells, collecting people's washing, taking it to the laundry, folding it up, and returning it.
She also gets another £8 for being a kitchen server, again meaning she leaves her cell early to set up for the other inmates. Our source said: "She does the toast in the morning, she does the laundry for our wing, so yeah always nice to people even when they are being sh*t to her."
Her third and most recently gained job, which means her weekly income has now reached £20-a-week, is as a worker at the "enhanced library". This special library, only for enhanced prisoners has movies and legal books available and she's in charge of handing them out and keeping everything tidy.
Our source said that because of the fear that she will be attacked by other prisoners, many of the women - even those with enhanced privileges - are not allowed in the facility when Letby is there as she is seen as at "high risk of being attacked".
"She gets almost £20 a week, which in prison money is a lot. She buys loads, and loads of junk food. She's put on loads of weight, she's got quite fat, you wouldn't recognise her. It's all put on around her face," our source said.
"She was moaning that she's the fattest she's ever been. She weighs 72 kilos [almost 11 stone 5oz] - she's not fat, but fat for her, you know as she was really, really skinny."
