Roy Keane has admitted that "still annoys" him that saw the legend sent off. During the buildup to on Sunday, revisited a clash between the two teams in 2001.
ultimately won the clash 4-3 thanks to a late own goal from Wes Brown, but the game is largely remembered for clash with Shearer that resulted in the United captain getting sent off.
During the dying embers of the match, Shearer attempted to run down the clock by delaying Keane's attempt to take a quick throw-in. He responded by throwing the ball at Shearer and the pair were then involved in a heated confrontation, with Keane throwing a punch at his rival.
Keane was promptly sent off and after he was shown footage of the incident, the 53-year-old recalled: "People annoy me! Do you know what, I think I got fined two weeks wages for that. I'm still annoyed with Wes for that OG at the end. The referee didn't help."

Fellow pundit and former Newcastle striker Les Ferdinand then chimed in: "I think it was one particular." And Keane agreed with Ferdinand's assessment, saying of Shearer: "One in particular, yeah, and he still annoys me."
Shearer previously opened up about the incident in the in 2021, revealing that Keane was waiting for him in the tunnel after the game. "When you went from the pitch into the tunnel at St James', there were a set of steps and then you split towards the home or away dressing-rooms," Shearer said.
"When the final whistle went, Roy was standing at the top of the stairs waiting for me. I'm pretty sure a few more choice words exchanged, there was some bustling and scrambling, but there were way too many people between us for anything physical to actually happen.
"That's usually how it pans out in football. Roy was never an enemy, that's definitely not the right word but when you want to win as much as we did, things would occasionally spill over.

"We've worked together on television over the years and there's never been any problem. We've got on well. And what a competitor and player he was."
Shearer has also admitted that he "didn't like" Keane during their playing days, telling the : "Yeah, I didn't like him. I had loads of rucks with him and I wasn't the only one.
"It was a throw-in in the far corner where I stopped him taking an early throw. We were beating them at St. James' and he wanted to take a quick throw-in and he'd been at me all game as he normally was.
"It was about three of four minutes before the end of the game. I can't remember exactly what I said, I called him some sort of name. He got the red card and I remember having a little smile and thought 'I've done you a kipper here. I can't believe you've fallen into that little trap.'"
