An expert on all things dogs has dished out their top recommendations for family-friendly pooches, singling out breeds known for their excellent temperaments and compatibility with children.

Will Atherton, who operates a dog hub in Derbyshire, has shared his preferred choices for families with youngsters. Stating the importance of the decision, Will said: "Choosing the breed for you is always important, but when there're children involved it goes from important to mandatory in my opinion and these are my personal favourites for the role!"

He then revealed: "These are the three breed that I think are perfect for families. Now usually when I talk about breed I give people a choice at different size ranges whereas I'm going to scrap that. I'm just going to go for three breeds that I think are perfectly regardless of size."

A walk in the park or a cuddle on the couch, Goldens are easy-going with everyone, from kids to critters.

Will couldn't help but gush over these furry friends, saying: "Absolutely incredible dogs, amazing temperaments. Wonderful with children, wonderful with other dogs and a joy to share your life with."

Labrador

For those considering a four-legged addition to their tribe, Labradors are stellar candidates. They're sociable, high-spirited, and have heaps of love to give, especially to youngsters, while typically getting along well with other household animals.

Always up for action, Labradors are energetic chaps needing their daily dose of play and thrive in the great outdoors. Beyond their zest for life, these dogs are quick on the uptake and showcase impressive smarts.

Boosting his praise for Golden Retrievers and raising the stakes, Will claimed: "With everything I just said about the golden retriever applying here, but maybe a little bit more is the Labrador."

Will's perspectives sparked quite the conversation amongst dog devotees, with numerous people reflecting similar thoughts. One individual shared their own tale: "We have labs and a Goldador. They are amazing for active families, special needs families, and hunting. They're the best of everything!".

On the other hand, a dedicated Lab fan added their view: "Labradors - King of all dog breeds. I've owned many different breeds and have my first Lab. I'll never own another breed."
