Maharashtra reported a 44-year-old fatality.
-
Kerala also witnessed one death due to COVID-19.
Currently, India has 3,961 active COVID-19 cases. Over the past day, 370 patients recovered. This year, 32 deaths have been recorded so far. Most new cases are mild and are being managed at home, prompting health officials to urge people not to panic.
Precautions and PreparednessIn response to rising cases, several states and union territories have issued advisories to hospitals to prepare for patient care by ensuring adequate beds, oxygen supply, antibiotics, and medicines.
Cause of Rise: Omicron Sub-VariantsThe Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) revealed that the increase is linked to Omicron sub-variants—LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1—with the first three being more widespread. The WHO continues to monitor some of these sub-variants closely through May 2025.
