Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was seen visibly angered and lashing out at teammates during the second day of the third Test match against England at Lord's. The incident, which unfolded during live play and has since gone viral on social media, highlighted Siraj's disappointment with poor fielding efforts from his colleagues.
While Jasprit Bumrah impressed with a five-wicket haul, effectively wrapping up England's first innings for 387 runs, the hosts could have been dismissed for fewer if crucial catches hadn't been dropped. Siraj, who was consistently building pressure from his end, bore the brunt of these fielding lapses.
The primary moment of frustration for Siraj came when KL Rahul dropped a catch from Jamie Smith off his bowling. Smith was on a mere 5 runs at the time, and after the reprieve, he went on to score a crucial 51 runs, further compounding Siraj's dismay.
Following this, wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel also failed to gather one of Siraj's deliveries cleanly, pushing the fast bowler's patience to its limit. Visibly upset, Siraj was heard exclaiming, "Catch it friend, concentrate on fielding!" This outburst was captured on video and quickly spread across social media platforms.
Commentators Sanjay Manjrekar and Varun Aaron, who were on air during the match, discussed Siraj's anger. Aaron noted that Siraj was bowling exceptionally well and that the dropped catches by Rahul and Jurel were the likely cause of his frustration. Manjrekar, while acknowledging Siraj's disappointment, suggested that both dropped chances were difficult, coming off the bat very quickly. He added that while Indian fielders were putting in effort, the catches simply weren't sticking.
Despite the fielding woes, Mohammed Siraj managed to secure two wickets in England's first innings at Lord's, dismissing Brydon Carse and Jamie Smith. He bowled 23.3 overs, conceding 85 runs. This performance followed his impressive six-wicket haul in the first innings of the previous Edgbaston Test.
