Jajpur: The Odisha government has suspended headmaster of a high school for irregularities in mid-day meal (MDM) for the students in Odisha’s Japur district.
According to sources, the students of Jhadeswari Government High School at Tolkani under Danagadi block of the district had been served mid-day meal of poor quality for the last two weeks. While eggs were not given to them in the meals regularly, the students were provided only biscuits on some days.
On Friday, the students were served only rice as MDM. When they asked for dal and curry, a teacher told them to take the rice with salt and chilly. This led the parents of the students to complain to district education officials. They also alleged that the headmaster, Srimant Kumar Mahant, was not coming to the school regularly.
Following the complaint, additional circle education officer and CRCC visited the school to take stock of the situation. They interacted with the students and teachers to know the management of the mid-day meal. Not satisfied with the situation, they recommended suspension of the headmaster.
The Education department on Saturday issued the official notice to suspend headmaster Mahant on the basis of inquiry report by the officials.
