Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for three districts of Odisha, including state capital Bhubaneswar, till 7.10 pm on Sunday.
Light rain or thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one of two places in the districts of Khurda (Including Bhubaneswar), Puri and Malkangiri during this period. People have advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places.
Earlier, a similar warning was issued for Rayagada, Sundargarh, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Jagatsinghpur districts till 6.20 pm.
The state is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from October 27 with the likely formation of a cyclonic storm, Montha, which may intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by morning of October 28 and make landfall near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh by night, packing a sustained wind speed of 90 to 100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph.
According to weather experts, Malkangiri and Koraput are expected to be the most affected. There are also fears of landslides and sudden flooding due to extremely heavy rainfall in Gajapati, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur districts.

A red warning of scattered heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) has been issued for seven districts of Malakangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi on October 28-29.
