Tom Hardy has a way of making every show or film better just by being in it. His performances, more often than not, carry a story, whether it's a period drama or movie based on the Marvel comics.
But now TV fans are calling one of his lesser-known roles the "best they've ever seen". The show is not new, but many people are only discovering it now, and they're blown away. One viewer said: "I am absolutely blown away by the class of this series. The storyline is genius, the actors are magnificent, and the production, wow! It's a masterpiece."
Another added: "This show is absolutely amazing! Tom Hardy is nothing short of a genius and that's what makes it the best show ever made."
A third wrote: "I can't believe I only just found out about this series. It's brilliant, my husband and I watched the entire first season in two evenings!"
The series they're talking about is Taboo, a BBC drama that first aired back in 2017.
It follows James Delaney, played by Hardy, who returns to London after spending 12 years in Africa.
His arrival sparks a dangerous chain of events involving the East India Company, corrupt officials, and hidden family secrets.
Some fans say the show was so gripping they watched it more than once.
One person said: "What an amazing drama. Had me gripped every week. So much so that I watched it again on BBC iPlayer and still enjoyed it immensely."
Another added: "This is quite honestly one of the best series I have ever seen! It really feels like one long movie from beginning to end!"
The cast also includes Stephen Graham, Jessie Buckley, Jonathan Pryce, Tom Hollander and Oona Chaplin.
The story was written by Hardy himself, along with his father Chips Hardy and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
The eight-part series aired on BBC One and it's still available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
It's set in 1814 and mixes history, revenge and political drama with dark, gritty visuals.
Nonetheless, fans hoping for a second season have had a long wait. Although it was renewed in 2017, filming has faced delays.
Back in 2023, the creators confirmed they're still working on it, but no release date has been announced.
For now, those who missed it the first time can catch up with season one available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
