Fans of crime drama Scrublands can finally watch the second series, enititled Scrublands: Silver, months after it debuted in Australia. The four part first season was a huge hit when it landed on BBC Four and subsequently the iPlayer in November 2023. Based on the Chris Hammer novels, the series follows journalist Martin Scarsden, played by Luke Arnold, who, in series one was following what he thought was a simple story about a small isolated town rocked by tragedy after a local priest shoots dead five parishioners. As the community grieved Martin's story became ever more complex as he dug deep to reveal the truth behind what happened.
Season two Scrublands: Silver, which is based on the second novel of the same name, was announced in March 2024 and follows Martin again, but this time he returns to his childhood hometown of Silver with his new partner Mandy. However things take a turn when he finds his best friend dead and Mandy is the main suspect.
It already has rave reviews on Google from those who have seen it.
"Definitely worth watching!! A beginning, middle & conclusion! Screenplay is brilliant & excellent casting! Even though only 4 Episodes, the storyline was condensed (no boring moments) with dramatic ending! Loved it!! Direction & Production was authentic & contemporary showing our incredible Country!" one fan raved.
"Outstanding TV drama. Excellent plot, very well acted and great cinematography. The characters were believable as was the plot in the main. There has been some great Australian drama on BBC in particular, Mystery Road. Scrublands is up there with it. With rubbish like the Jackal series being produced it is refreshing to have some gripping plausible drama to watch. Highly recommended," anther wrote.
"Outstanding book which was turned into an above average television. The scenery is beautifully shot and the acting is of a good standard. The production is better than average for an Aussie TV show. Thoroughly enjoyable," a third chimed in.
"Good story, classy acting, and well-paced. Four episodes was just right, rather than being padded to six. These Australian productions are so much better to watch than the American efforts; we share the same humour I suppose!" a fourth mused.
"Great Australian series 1 and continues to get better with Series 2. Can't wait for Series 3. Love it," a fifth raved.
"First-rate Australian drama. Excellent acting and intruiging plot. Definitely a must-watch," a sixth shared.
While a third series hasn't yet been annunced given the show's popularity it looks likely. If if follows the third book in the series titled Trust it will focus on Mandy's disappearance.
