President Donald Trump revealed on Thursday that he intends to "get back"Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan during a press conference.
"We're trying to get it back, by the way, okay. That could be a little breaking news. We're trying to get it back, because they need things from us", he declared alongsideBritish Prime Minister Keir Starmer throughout his second state visit to the UK.
He noted that the facility is "an hour away from where China makes its nuclear." The news comes as US President Donald Trump slaps down Keir Starmer on 4 issues at press conference.
He indicated that the US was in discussions with Afghanistan: "We're trying to get it back because they need things from us. We want that base back."
Trump has consistently slammed former President Joe Biden regarding the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, alleging that the decision left the Taliban government with American weaponry and other military assets, including the Bagram facility, reports the Express US.
He has persistently maintained that the installation is now under Chinese control, something that Afghan officials have refuted, and highlighted the strategic importance of the base for America.
"One of the reasons we want the base is, as you know, it's an hour away from where China makes its nuclear weapons. So a lot of things are happening, but I am very disappointed in the fact that that one's not settled," he stated.

The airbase has historically been amongst the most crucial military assets for the US in South Asia owing to its position. Bagram Airbase has long been recognised as one of the United States' most crucial military assets in South Asia, prized for both its strategic location and capabilities.
Situated approximately 24 miles north of Kabul, the base is conveniently located near the borders of China, Pakistan, India and Central Asia, providing the U.S. with an operational hub close to some of the world's most volatile regions.
