Kay Burley rips apart Lisa Nandy as killer question leaves her squirming

Send Push

fell apart as she was quizzed by about Labour's new bill on Sky News.

Earlier in the month, Labour ministers unveiled the Employment Rights Bill, which aims to tackle low pay and poor working conditions.

Within the bill are a series of reforms, including the right to statutory sick pay from the first day of illness, the right to flexible working and granting workers protection from unfair dismissal from the first day of their employment.

On Thursday's instalment (October 24) of her Sky News breakfast show, Burley probed Nandy on who will benefit from this bill.

Burley, 63, asked Nandy to give her a definition of a working person, to which she responded: "I think about the factory workers and people who are driving busses in my constituency.

"Those working in public services and the private sector. Life has gotten a lot harder for them over the last decade and a half."

Landy continued: "It's not just that finances are always on a knife edge but it's that they lose time to spend with their kids because they're doing shift work or taking on several jobs to supplement their income and we want to make life easier for them."

Burley queried: "What about those who earn a six-figure salary who can't do those things that you've talked about because they are too busy working to potentially support others?"

Nandy explained that Labour are keen for people to have a better work-life balance, which is why they have taken a "more flexible approach".

She added: "We want to give people the flexibility to care for elderly parents. We've always taken that approach in the Labour party and we think that isn't just good for families and society but also the economy."

The politician said Labour wants to make life easier for people which will ultimately get the best out of them.

"Yep. But just to clarify, someone who earns a six-figure salary, are they a working person?" the presenter asked.

"Well if they go to work then obviously they will be working," responded Nandy before Burley interjected: "There we go. That's all I needed to hear."
