A lip reader has revealed a seven-word cringeworthy phrase Keir Starmer said when meeting Donald Trump with his wife, Lady Victoria, on the steps of the US President's Scottish golf resort. Mr Trump greeted the Prime Minister earlier this afternoon during the first full day of his UK visit. They are due to discuss tariffs on British steel and the situation in Gaza.
"I wanted the atmosphere to be right," Mr Trump told the couple, according to Nicola Hickling from LipReader. "It's incredible here, and, if you can, you can stay here, and, if you're free, and your family, they're welcome too." Sir Keir nodded in agreement and said, "I appreciate that." The US President then turned to Lady Victoria and said: "You can come and go as you please, run free. It's so quiet here, free to you all." He added: "Do you know, we're making history?"
Sir Keir responded with the phrase: "I know, we're standing here with you."
Mr Trump then turned to the media and said: "Thank you, everybody. If you want a drink, we have beverages."
The PM later suggested that he would invite the President to a football ground in return for being hosted at the President's golf course.
Speaking at the start of their meeting at Turnberry, the Sir Keir said: "It's fantastic to be here, thank you for your hospitality, and to see this amazing golf course.
"I'll invite you to a football ground at some stage, we can exchange sports."
Gaza is also being discussed.
Mr Trump said: "Other nations are going to have to step up" when it comes to helping people in the strip."
Speaking outside his hotel, he also stated: "The United States recently, just a couple of weeks ago, we gave 60 million US dollars. It's a lot of money.
"No other nation gave money, I know the Prime Minister would, if he knew about it. And he really knows about it now, because we're going to be discussing it.
"But we gave 60million US dollars, nobody said even thank you, you know, thanks, somebody should be saying thank you. But other nations are going to have to step up."
