Netflix drops chilling trailer for true crime doc about 'doomed fishing trip'

Netflix has unveiled a disturbing trailer for a harrowing story about a son who was rescued at sea eight days after his disappearance.

In September 2016, Linda Carman, 54, and her son Nathan, 22, set off on a fishing trip from South Kingstown, Rhode Island.

When Linda failed to contact her friend the next day, the pair were reported missing.

Eight days later, Nathan was spotted drifting alone in a life raft, but his mother was never found.

Netflix's The Carman Family Deaths examines how a missing-person case at sea turned into a far-reaching investigation.

Nathan details the harrowing story of survival, but investigators noticed gaps in his account.

Diagnosed with autism as a child, Nathan could appear detached, which deepened suspicions.

The family has a chequered past as three years earlier, Linda's millionaire father, developer John Chakalos, was found murdered in his bed.

Nathan was the last known person to see him alive.

The documentary examines the 2016 disappearance, before following the widening investigation that linked Nathan to the unsolved 2013 murder of his grandfather.

The film features interviews with Nathan's father and Linda's ex-husband, Clark Carman, one of Linda's sisters, and investigators from the Coast Guard, local police, and the FBI.

Tudum said the documentary's trailer shows how the "doomed fishing trip plunged a family into a modern-day Greek tragedy".

The teaser explains how the family was "torn apart by tragedy" and how Linda was "very protective" of her son.

Nathan was the firstborn grandson of a Green dynasty, with Linda's father being described as "extremely controlling".

Linda's sister is heard saying she "didn't want anything to do with" Nathan after believing he had killed her.

Yet experts are heard saying how people on the autism spectrum are "frequently misinterpreted", and that Nathan was seen as "the easy mark".
