MP lost it live on-air with a reporter, accusing him of "playing silly games". Farage was being quizzed on after prime minister speech yesterday (May 13), in which he laid out new rules for migrants entering the country. Under Starmer's plans, migrants will need to have a basic understanding of English and will need to live in the UK for 10 years to gain settled status.
Starmer also plans to scrap the social care visa, adding extra pressure to the stretched care system. Sky News was keen to quiz Farage on his thoughts for the sector, with the reporter asking: "Will you put a cap on the number of people who can come in under your essential skills exemption, particularly in health care, for people who come into the country?"
Farage responded: "By the time of the next election? We will. I can't tell you the numbers right now, I don't have all the figures, but what I can tell you is anyone that comes in will not be allowed to stay long-term. That's the difference."
The reporter then reiterated: "So you are committing to a cap on the numbers of people-" but was cut off by Farage, who fumed: "You ask me in four years time, all right? Ask me in four years time. You can play whatever silly games you want right now.
"The fact is- the fact is there is nothing that has been said today that I think is genuinely going to be followed through with vigour and lead to levels of immigration going back to historic levels."
Viewers were divided over the segment, with one keen to support the Reform leader as they tweeted: "He answered just fine. He doesn't have a crystal ball or all the government figures. Remember how constantly blame the Tories for not revealing their figures?"
Another posted: "At least he is straight to the point, doesn't change his stance to what ever is popular, if you asked Starmer the same thing you would get a long winded waffle about how this and that is important while not specifically giving a honest answer!"
But another posted: "He is such an ill mannered man. That's why I'm convinced Farage is untrustworthy." Someone else agreed: "The fact is... THE FACT IS... is his tell that he's rattled and he then tries to change the subject. Interviewers should be wise to it by now and call him out."
