Greece is one of the most visited destinations in the world. The beautiful Mediterranean country is home to many beautiful locations and islands, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing holiday. Crete, Corfu, and Santorini are some of Greece's most sought-after islands. Each island welcomes millions of visitors every year who take advantage of the picturesque scenery, perfect white sand beaches, and thriving communities.
However, with the three islands being so popular, it can become overwhelming if you're the kind of traveller who isn't too keen on being around large crowds. That being said, there is another island that welcomes just a fraction of the number of holidaymakers you'll find in other Greek islands.
Symi is a small gem tucked away in the Aegean Sea. Despite not often being talked about, it is full of beauty and charm, just like Greece's more well-known islands.
One of the highlights of the small island is its vibrant harbour, which boasts colourful neoclassical buildings that sit up along the hillside. The island's main town, Gialos, is also a popular attraction, where you will find the Town Hall and main church, Agios Ioannis.
Carrying on exploring, you'll find several traditional cafes across the island's main squares - Kampos, Tarsanas, and Skala, and you can even enjoy a bit of shopping in the local stores.
There are also several beaches that are accessible from the harbour, which is perfect for those who want to make the most of the 28C heat the island welcomes in September.

Nos Beach, a popular sandy stretch, is just a 12-minute walk away and is the ultimate spot for watersports enthusiasts. Saint George Bay, the island's best sandy spot, is the perfect destination to take in the island's beauty.
The bay has an impressive 4.6 rating on TripAdvisor, with visitors raving about the beach's crystal clear blue waters.
One person said: "A nice beach where the waters are warm, idyllic place for couples even for families. I highly recommend it! We went by private boat for a dive in the blue waters and had a fantastic time."
A second wrote: "Beautiful waters a great swim before we docked in Symi, the swim was very welcoming as it was so hot.
Good boat trip, wouldn't mind one of the luxury yachts though."
