The Palace of the Parliament in the city is the second-largest administrative building in the world after the Pentagon. This massive neoclassical structure is a symbol of Romania's communist past and a must-visit site for history lovers.
But the city's Old Town is unmissable. The historical streets of the old town are lined with charming cafés, bars, and restaurants where you can experience the city's nightlife.
One of the user wrote on TripAdvisor forum about the Old Town: "The center is amazing with many options. Museums, historic buildings, old palaces, cafes, and restaurants. If you stay in the center you can see everything comfortably and on foot. If you want to take out the tourist card of Bucharest for 24,48 and 72 hours (40 lei) and you see the whole city.
"Nice shopping centers, an open food market, and notable places.If you have time you have to go to see all of Bucharest, which is a big city."
The city's cuisine is a mix of Romanian, Ottoman, Greek, and French influences. Some of the must-try dishes include sarmale (cabbage rolls), mmlig (polenta), and papanasi (fried doughnuts with sour cream and jam).
And travelling around the city is quite easy with its efficient public transport system, including buses, trams, trolleybuses, and the metro. Taxis and ride-sharing apps like Uber, Bolt, and Yango are also available for easy travel.
Calling it a "perfect city break", one of the travellers wrote on TripAdvisor forum: "I took a Tarom flight to Bucharest for a short trip for business purposes. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my stay in the city. Very relaxing and good food in Old City, also a lot of parks (Herastrau) and shopping centers. I strongly recommend visiting the Museum Antipa! That's a must for natural history lovers."
Another user said: "Bucharest has a beautiful architectural ensemble with a lot of French influence from the 19th century. In addition, we see some brutalist influence from the years when Romania was communist. There are many bars, cafes, and bookstores, and young and excited people. Prices are quite attractive. It is worth spending hours visiting the Historic Center."
