DHARMAPURI: Water flow in the Cauvery at Hogenakkal surged to 4,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) on Friday night thanks to the recent rainfall in the river’s catchment areas in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

An official in the water resources department said the waterflow, which was below 1,500 cusecs until April 16, jumped to 2,000 cusecs on Thursday and then reached 4,000 cusecs by Friday night.

As a result of this increased flow, Iyndharuvi (Five Falls), Cini Falls and Main Falls at Hogenakkal are now gushing with water.

The sudden increase in water flow has delighted tourists who visit Hogenakkal for oil massage, bathing and coracle ride.
