Madikeri: The forest department has taken into its custody a total of 18.40 acres of encroached land in Tholurshettalli village under the jurisdiction of Somwarpet sub-division.
The range forest officer and staff of Somwarpet zone discovered that a plantation encroached on the ‘Uruduve' land for coffee cultivation for many years. The foresters got back the encroached land.
A total of 18.40 acres was encroached in 1970, cultivated with coffee plants, and some land was left vacant. Now, this encroached land was handed over to the forest department, officials stated.
The drive was carried out under the guidance of DCF (Madikeri division) Bhaskar and Somwarpet sub-division assistant conservator of forests AA Gopal. Somwarpet RFO N Shailendrakumar, Shantalli branch deputy range forest officer S Satish, and others participated in the drive.
