Mandya: A man was arrested on charges of transporting calves in inhumane conditions and his truck was impounded near Jayanthi Nagar on Monday.
A truck, which was en route from KR Pete and to a slaughterhouse in Mysuru, was intercepted near Shambulingeshwara Education Trust on KR Pete–Srirangapatna main road in Pandavapura taluk. A total of 36 calves, including five dead, was stuffed in a severely cramped and inhumane manner, according to police. People from KR Pete may have been involved in supplying the calves, according to authorities.
Srirangapatna rural police took the accused, Manjunath, into custody and launched an investigation into the incident.
