Chandrapur: Two accused in the horrific case of abuse of two minor girls in Chimur were on Wednesday remanded in judicial custody, while 30 people, who were allegedly part of the mob that attacked Chimur police station, were booked under relevant sections of law for arson and stone pelting. Meanwhile, peace returned to the town with daily life resuming as usual.

Tensions flared up in Chimur on Monday night after news of the abuse of the minors spread, prompting a violent public outcry. An angry mob had surrounded Chimur police station, demanding capital punishment for the culprits. As the protesters resorted to stone pelting, police had to use force to disperse the crowd, resulting in injuries to several civilians and men in uniform.

On Tuesday, Warora special court had sent the two accused to one-day police custody. They were presented before the court again on Wednesday and subsequently transferred to judicial custody.

The town now remains calm, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, superintendent of police Mummakka Sudarshan has appealed to the citizens to maintain peace and not take law into their hands. In a social media post, Sudarshan said strict legal action is being taken and justice will be ensured through proper judicial process. "Any attempt to create unrest or exert pressure on the police by unlawful gatherings or inciting violence is unacceptable," he said.

Sudarshan has urged people not to believe in or spread rumours and to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order. He also called upon social and political leaders to play a responsible role in ensuring peace in their respective areas.
