Nagpur: After announcing an annual aid of ₹4,000 to schoolgirls under ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has now introduced a dual welfare initiative aimed at supporting differently-abled residents. Under this scheme, the civic body will offer up to ₹3 lakh in financial assistance to eligible athletes and a monthly subsistence allowance of ₹500 to individuals with specific disabilities.

Sportspersons with disability of 40% or more, and residing within NMC limits, can apply online at www.nmcnagpur.gov.in. The financial assistance will be structured as follows: ₹15,000 for participation at the state level, ₹25,000 at the national level, and up to ₹1 lakh for international events. Athletes competing in premier competitions such as Olympics, Paralympics, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games will be eligible for up to ₹3 lakh to cover expenses related to training, coaching, and purchasing or importing specialized sports equipment.

This initiative is being implemented under guidance of municipal commissioner and administrator Abhijeet Chaudhari. Deputy commissioner of social welfare department, Ranjana Lade, stated that the scheme is designed to support athletes at every stage of their journey, all the way up to the highest level of competition.

In addition, ₹500 monthly allowance will be provided to differently-abled individuals with intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism, and multiple disabilities. This financial support aims to improve their day-to-day living conditions and uphold their dignity.
