The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced sweeping reforms to speed up government hiring. Exams will now be fully computer-based, interviews eliminated, and document verification streamlined. With descriptive papers removed and skill tests conducted nationwide, recruitment cycles have been cut from 15–18 months to 6–10 months, promising faster appointments and a more efficient process for candidates.
In a major overhaul, the SSC has shifted entirely from pen-and-paper exams to computer-based testing. The number of exam tiers has been reduced, and descriptive papers removed across all exams except the Combined Hindi Translators Examination. These measures are designed to accelerate evaluation and streamline the overall recruitment process.
Interviews eliminated, verification streamlined
Interviews have been completely discontinued, while document verification will now be conducted directly by respective Ministries and Departments, reducing administrative delays. Candidates will also benefit from e-dossiers replacing physical files, speeding up pre-appointment checks and ensuring a smoother hiring process.
Faster nationwide recruitment
Skill tests will now be conducted on a pan-India basis, and the SSC will increase the number of examination shifts to accommodate more candidates efficiently. Exam notices have been shortened from 45 days to 21 days, allowing aspirants to respond faster.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, PMO, and Personnel, said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha that these combined measures have cut SSC recruitment cycles from 15–18 months to 6–10 months.
