The popular action-comedy film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, is set to arrive on Hulu next month. As reported by CBR, the 2005 hit movie directed by Doug Liman will start streaming on the platform from February 1, 2025. This gives fans another opportunity to revisit the beloved film while they also wait for the second season of Amazon Studios’ Mr. & Mrs. Smith series.
The movie features Pitt and Jolie playing John and Jane Smith, a married couple who seem to lead ordinary lives working as a construction executive and a tech consultant. However, beneath their everyday appearances, they are actually highly trained assassins working for rival organizations, without knowing the truth about each other. Their secrets come out after a failed mission forces them to confront one another, leading to thrilling action scenes, chaos, and surprisingly, a renewed connection in their marriage.
When 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' first released in theaters, it received mixed-to-positive reviews. While many praised the chemistry between the two leads and Doug Liman’s direction, some critics felt that the movie’s script was not very strong. Despite that, the film performed extremely well at the box office, earning more than $480 million worldwide against a production budget of $110 million. The success of the movie even led to plans for a spin-off series in 2007, though that project never moved forward.
In 2024, Amazon Studios revived the franchise with a new Mr. & Mrs. Smith series, starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as the new John and Jane. The show quickly became a hit and was renewed for a second season. However, there have been rumors that the lead actors might not return. Addressing the rumors, Maya Erskine commented in December that no official announcement had been made yet and urged fans to be patient, comparing it to not opening presents before Christmas.
Fans eager to watch the original movie again will be happy to know that Mr. & Mrs. Smith will officially join Hulu’s catalog starting February 1, 2025.
