‘The Invisible Man’ director Leigh Whannell has shared some news regarding the sequel of the movie. The 2020 horror-thriller, with Elisabeth Moss as Cecilia, left audiences at the edge of their seats as they dined on the suspenseful tale of an abused woman hunted by her ex-boyfriend who had become invisible.
Just last week, Moss dropped hints of a sequel getting underway. However, what Whannell said lately made most believe he is not included in the future sequel.
The director, who is known for his hallmarks in the horror genre, has spoken openly during an interview at New York Comic Con where he revealed that he is content about the ending of the first film and implied that the sequel may run on without him.
Whannell on Ending Cecilia's Story
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Whannell further shared his thoughts about the prospects of the sequel. He elaborated that Universal Pictures, as well as Elisabeth Moss, could make ‘Invisible Man 2’ on their own, but the original story came to its final resting place.
"With Invisible Man, I really felt good about where we ended, for me. I don’t own the IP for Invisible Man so Universal can make a sequel if they want to – but for me, as a filmmaker, I really think that was a closed story. I can’t see that there’s any more story to tell," Whannell explained.
This has led to some pretty important questions surrounding the direction of ‘Invisible Man 2.’ after all, Elisabeth Moss had said they were "closer than [they] have ever been" to finally making progress on the sequel.
The fans of the first movie are wondering whether another director can step up to bring it all together and push Cecilia's tale forward. A few have argued that the original ending given was very satisfying and that a sequel would only serve to lessen it by redundancy. Others believe that a new narrative can be successfully assembled, and the project could well make it to the big screen with a new creative vision, even without Whannell.
