IPL 2025: Below-par SRH chase campaign-reviving win against Punjab Kings

Desperate to swim up the IPL 2025 points table from their current rock-bottom position, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will hope that home advantage finally shows up when they take on the high-flying Punjab Kings on Saturday..

Since the batting fireworks in their first match of this season, which saw SRH post a mammoth 286 against Rajasthan Royals, the team from the Deccan Plateau has faced back-to-back defeats for four games in a row and is now desperate to turn the tide to avoid reaching the point of no return.

Despite possessing a dynamic batting unit, the 'Orange Army' has been disappointing, with their all-out attacking approach resulting in modest scores of 163, 120, and 152, leading to significant losses.

With the bat, Sunrisers Hyderabad need far more from their big names like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen.

Head and Sharma's explosive opening partnership, which was instrumental last season, has struggled to deliver in the current campaign. Their highest opening stand has been a mere 15 runs, highlighting their difficulties at the crease.

Head's batting form has shown a steady decline, with his scores dropping from 67 and 47 to 22, 4, and 8. Similarly, Abhishek has been unable to make a significant impact, managing a highest score of only 24 in his five innings.

Following his century in the first match, Kishan has been unable to replicate that form. Additionally, SRH's reliable middle-order batsman Klaasen has yet to make a notable contribution to the team's cause.

SRH's batting woes have been a major talking point, but their bowling performance has also been significantly below par in the tournament.

The experienced pace bowling trio of Pat Cummins, Mohammed Shami and Harshal Patel has been ineffective, failing to secure early wickets and create pressure on the opposition.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have shown promising form in the initial stages of the season with Shreyas Iyer at the helm.

The Indian captain has demonstrated exceptional batting prowess while showcasing remarkable strategic acumen, steering his squad to victories in three out of four matches, securing the fourth position in the standings at the moment.

The team's batting arsenal has been bolstered by the emergence of young talent Priyansh Arya. The newcomer at the top of the order left spectators and pundits astounded with his brilliant hundred against CSK when others found scoring difficult.

The bowling unit, comprising Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson, Yuzvendra Chahal and Marco Jansen, has delivered consistent performances.
