After being asked to bat first, Punjab Kings posted 236/5 and restricted LSG to 199/7, marking their first IPL win at the venue since May 18, 2013, when they defeated Mumbai Indians by 50 runs.
The victory was particularly significant as Punjab Kings have only won six out of their 14 matches played at the Dharamsala venue. Their previous success at this ground came under former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist 's captaincy, who led the team in their first five matches at the venue.

When questioned about the team's historically poor record at HPCA Stadium, Iyer responded: "I'm glad I did not know about it. I step on to the pitch to win the match, that was my mindset. We have been lucky so far, the luck has been there because of the hard work and the commitment shown. Everyone stepping at the right time, each and every individual know their roles precisely. There's only thing we need to correct โ that is the awareness and the way we move on the field. Just back yourself and back your instincts and not think too much about the stats and what it can offer. Results does matter and that is winning."
