The Dallas Mavericks pulled off a surprise win at the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery . The team landed the No. 1 overall pick despite having only a 1.8% chance to do so. This is the first time in franchise history that the Dallas Mavericks have won the lottery. The event took place on Monday at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago.

He led Duke to the Final Four and was named the national player of the year. Flagg averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists while shooting efficiently from the field, three-point range, and free-throw line. He also impressed many during Team USA scrimmages last summer, where he played against NBA stars as a 17-year-old and held his own.
San Antonio, which already has back-to-back Rookie of the Year winners, Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, received the No. 2 pick. Philadelphia came in third, followed by Charlotte at No. 4, and Utah at No. 5. Washington will pick sixth, New Orleans seventh, and Brooklyn eighth.
Rounding out the top 14: Toronto (9th), Houston (10th), Portland (11th), Chicago (12th), Atlanta (13th), and San Antonio again at 14th due to a traded pick.
Dallas CEO Rick Welts, holding the winning envelope, expressed his excitement by saying, “I am so happy for Mavericks fans. It’s going to really be something special.”
