Aaron Rodgers goes dark on Steelers as retirement rumors swirl—what is he really planning?

Send Push
As the 2025 NFL Draft looms just days away, the future of veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains one of the league’s biggest unresolved stories. The 41-year-old four-time MVP, who was released by the New York Jets earlier this offseason, appears to be caught between two extremes: chasing one last shot at a Super Bowl or walking away from the game entirely.

Steelers left in the dark as Aaron Rodgers goes silent after meeting
The Pittsburgh Steelers have emerged as the most viable landing spot for Aaron Rodgers, but the quarterback’s recent silence is causing concern. According to CBS Sports reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, the Steelers have not heard from Rodgers since their meeting on March 21.

Despite their interest and potential fit, the franchise remains in limbo. “He will either join a Super Bowl contender or simply retire,” Kinkhabwala reported. For Rodgers, anything less than a championship-caliber roster is off the table. That reportedly includes the New York Giants, who are now focused on other quarterback prospects such as Jaxson Dart.

Aaron Rodgers not interested in rebuilding—he wants to win now

Rodgers’ stance has been firm. He’s made it clear that at this stage in his career, he has no interest in joining a team in transition. Sources close to the situation revealed that Rodgers “practically asked for his release from the Jets” because he believed the team wasn’t built to win in the immediate future. This hardline stance comes with risk: by refusing to entertain offers from non-contenders, Rodgers is limiting his options in a shrinking market.

While the Steelers and Vikings both qualify as playoff-caliber teams with respected coaches and balanced rosters, the question remains whether they believe Rodgers still has the physical tools and leadership needed to take them to the Super Bowl. Rodgers, known for his meticulous preparation and outspoken personality, may still be a top-tier talent—but his recent history of injuries and media drama have some franchises hesitant.

Rodgers’ next move will define the final chapter of his Hall of Fame career. He can either cement his legacy with a fairytale ending or risk fading away in offseason limbo. With the clock ticking, all eyes are on Pittsburgh—and on Rodgers—to see who will make the next move in this high-stakes standoff.
