Lewis Hamilton has shared several pictures from his MET Gala appearance along with the inspiration behind his look and how it was all about ancestral memory for the Formula 1 champion. The Ferrari driver wore a cream dramatic suit with embroidered details and paired it with a beret and a brooch for his glamorous MET Gala outing as a co-chair of the event. He has also spoken about representing his people at the gala and making them “seen” by inviting many noted black women to the event.
All about Lewis Hamilton’s MET Gala outing and attire
Sharing pictures from his MET Gala photoshoot on Instagram, Hamilton wrote, “MET GALA 2025. It’s hard to put into words what it means to co-chair this year’s Met. This year’s theme speaks to royalty, spirituality, and the sacred power of adornment. Materials like ivory and cowrie aren’t just beautiful—they carry ancestral memory. They are markers of identity, protection, and reverence.”
“I’m deeply grateful to the Costume Institute at The Met, to Grace Wales Bonner , to the incredible co-chairs, and to everyone who continues to honor the legacy of the Black Dandy. We’ve always been here. We’ve always been fly. And now, we’re seen,” he added.
Hamilton also shared a picture with the designer and wrote in detail about the idea behind his all-cream look. He wrote along with the photos with Grace, “From the moment I heard the theme of this year’s Met Gala, I knew I wanted to work with Grace @walesbonner. This look has taken months of research and development. Every detail has been deeply considered—there’s a lot of emotion and meaning woven into this. This is more than a suit, this is ancestral history. Stylish, spiritual, and sharp. Thank you, Grace.”
In another post, Hamilton also revealed that he had invited Lauryn Hill, Regina King, Jordan Casteel, Ming Smith, Adrienne Warren, Danielle Deadwyler, Lorna Simpson, and Radhika Jones to his table this year. He expressed his gratitude for marking a presence at the event.
Sharing his purpose behind it, he wrote, “You can’t speak on Black dandyism , Black art, or Black aesthetics without honoring the Black women who shaped, nurtured, and redefined it all. This year, my intention was to uplift and be surrounded by some of the Black women whose brilliance moves me—artists, thinkers, visionaries who carry history and possibility in everything they do.”
