In the Marvel Rivals Season 2 trailer, Emma Frost is seen hosting the Hellfire Gala event and inviting all the heroes to Krakoa Island. The Hellfire Gala: Krakoa map will be a domination map that might feature a unique portal system.

What are Krakoa Portals ?

Krakoa Portals are a portal gateway made by a certain type of flower that can only be used by mutants. In MArvel Rivals, these Krakoa portals might teleport mutants to the other side of the map, opening up the game for interesting gameplay opportunities.

While specific details haven’t been officially announced yet, leaks reveal interesting mechanics behind the Krakoa Portals. They are as follows:

  • Portals might have cooldown periods between usage after closing
  • Portals may indicate when players are coming before teleportation
    • Contains Audio Cue
    • Portal Might visually change when a "warning" occurs
  • Portals might need to be claimed by either team before use or given ownership to them based on who owns the capture point
  • Portals may need to be "Channeled" before use.
  • Tutorial/Tip might appear on screen when a portal is inactive/on CoolDown

With the release of the Hellfire Gala: Krakoa map in Marvel Rivals Season 2, the game will have a total of 11 main maps and two arcade maps. Considering the many maps in the game, NetEase Games will be rotating maps in the competitive game mode to boost competitive potential and keep the battleground fresh.

In Marvel Rivals Season 2, the new Hellfire Gala: Krakoa map will enter the competitive pool of maps. However, Yggsgard: Yggdrasill Path map and Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya map will exit the map pool for ranked play.

Marvel Rivals Tournaments, like Marvel Rivals Invitational and Marvel Rivals Championship, will also use the map rotation from competitive game mode. This ensures that professional players aren’t caught by surprise on the day of battle, giving them time to prepare and practice on specific maps.

However, casual game modes like Quick Match and Custom Games will still feature every map in Marvel Rivals.

Marvel Rivals Season 2 will introduce a map selection option for Competitive

In Dev Vision Vol. 05, it was revealed that players will now have the option to choose and select one or multiple maps before queuing for ranked play in Marvel Rivals. This is an essential feature for serious competitive players looking to master a single map with a specific hero.
