Later, in the ninth inning, Aaron Judge added two additional runs with a single. The Tigers staged a fierce comeback in the ninth inning, scoring three runs, but it was too little. The Yankees took the game 4–3.
The Detroit fans witnessed a true battle. The two teams fought tooth and nail, but pitching stole the limelight. Max Fried and Jack Flaherty cumulatively struck out 20 times, demonstrating the power of pitching. The game would be one that the players and the spectators would not forget.
