Gearbox has moved the launch of its next first-person shooter, Borderlands 4 , up by 11 days. The game is now set to release on September 12, 2025, instead of the originally scheduled September 23. The company has announced that the game will be available on September 12 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 . The Take Two-owned game development studio took to the social media platform X (earlier Twitter) to make this announcement. Development chief Randy Pitchford also confirmed the change in the release date of the game in a video that appears to have gone live early.
In the video, Pitchford can be seen saying: “Everything is going great, actually. In fact, everything is going kind of the best-case scenario. The game is awesome, the team is cooking, and so the launch date for Borderlands 4 is changing. We’re moving it forward. The launch date is now September 12. “What?! This never happens you guys! This never happens! We’re moving the launch date forward! You’re gonna get Borderlands 4 earlier!”
Pitchford noted that Sony will host a dedicated 20-minute PlayStation State of Play for Borderlands 4 tomorrow, April 30, at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 11 PM CEST/2.30 AM IST, streaming on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels.
What the company said about preponing the Borderlands 4 release date
In the X post, the company wrote: “HEYO, VAULT HUNTERS ! WE HAVE AN IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT THE LAUNCH OF BORDERLANDS 4
It has been incredible seeing the response as we move ever closer to the release. Our team has thrown themselves headfirst into making this the greatest Borderlands yet-both for new and returning Vault Hunters.
After careful consideration-along with a LOT of meetings, playtesting, and incredible development work-we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12.
You'll be able to crash into Kairos two weeks sooner. We're BEYOND excited to share the new world with all of you ahead of schedule.
And if that still doesn't feel soon enough?
Join us this Wednesday, April 30, at 2pm PT for PlayStation's State of Play focused solely on Borderlands 4 and get an extended look at the action-packed insanity that awaits you on Kairos.”
