Google is taking steps to personalise the messaging experience with the rollout of a new "Your profile" feature in Google Messages . This update gives users more control over how they appear to their contacts, addressing privacy concerns and fostering a more connected communication experience.
Previously, users had limited options for customising their profiles within Google Messages. Now, the "Your profile" feature offers a dedicated space to manage your profile picture and name displayed during conversations. When opening Google Messages, a prompt may appear inviting you to "Customise how you are seen."
Tapping this prompt leads to the "Your profile" page, where users can edit their displayed name and choose a profile picture. The picture is pulled from your Google Account by default, but you can also choose a custom image.
More importantly, the update introduces control over who gets to see your profile details. A "Show name and picture to" dropdown menu offers three options:
