According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman , Apple ’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro will not introduce a "particularly bold" new design, contrary to earlier rumors suggesting a significant overhaul. In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman revealed that the iPhone 17 Pro will retain a design similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Pro , with only minor refinements.
iPhone 16 Pro likely to feature this design changeWhile the front of the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to look almost identical to the 16 Pro, the back will feature a redesigned camera module . Gurman noted that the camera area will span the width of the phone, but it will match the color of the device, debunking earlier speculation about a two-tone design. This subtle approach aligns with Apple’s strategy of gradual design evolution rather than dramatic changes.
“Some images online even show a two-tone design, with a dark-black camera block on top of a silver iPhone back. Those are, like many renders on the internet, not an accurate representation of what’s to come. The iPhone 17 Pro won’t have a two-toned back, I’m told. The camera area will be the same color as the rest of the device. That speaks to the more gradual design changes that Apple is making: The iPhone 17 Pro isn’t a major departure from current models,” said Gurman in his latest Power on newsletter.
Gurman also hinted that Apple is reserving more radical design updates for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary in 2027, which could include foldable models and a "bold new Pro" variant. For now, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to focus on incremental improvements, maintaining Apple’s signature aesthetic while enhancing functionality.
The iPhone 17 series , including the Pro, Pro Max, and the new ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, is slated for release in September 2025.
