Champai Soren, Sita Soren, Babulal Marandi in BJP first list of 66 seats out of 68

RANCHI: A day after it announced a seat-sharing deal with its allies Ajsu-P , JDU and LJP (Ram Vilas), BJP released Saturday its first list of candidates for 66 of 68 assembly constituencies it plans to contest in the Jharkhand polls .

The party is yet to name its candidate for Barhait (ST), from where CM Hemant Soren might contest. It also left Tundi seat vacant.

"The names of candidates were finalised at BJP's central election committee meeting chaired by BJP president J P Nadda and attended by PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah," BJP national general secretary Arun Singh said.

Veteran netas like C P Singh were fielded for a record seventh time from Ranchi. Leader of the opposition in the assembly Amar Kumar Bauri was fielded from his home turf, Chandankyari (SC), in Bokaro district. State president Babulal Marandi was fielded from his home turf, Dhanwar, in Giridih district. Former health minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi was fielded from Bishrampur while former CM and ex-JMM neta Champai Soren was fielded from his pocket borough of Seraikela (ST). Champai's son Babulal, was fielded from Ghatshila (ST).

BJP fielded the daughter-in-law of former CM and Odisha governor Raghubar Das, Purnima Das Sahu, from Jamshedpur (East). The Odisha governor had been MLA from the seat for five terms before losing in 2019. Former CM Arjun Munda's wife, Mira Munda, was fielded from Potka (ST) in East Singhbhum. Geeta Koda, wife of former CM Madhu Koda, was fielded from Jagannathpur (ST).

Sita Soren, sister-in-law of CM Soren, was fielded from Jamtara. Before resigning from JMM before LS polls, Sita had been an MLA from Jama (ST) thrice. NCP MLA Kamlesh Kumar Singh, who joined BJP recently, was fielded from his home turf of Hussainabad, Palamu district, and JMM rebel Lobin Hembrom from Borio (ST) seat.

Several former MPs who were either benched or lost in the Lok Sabha polls were also given tickets. Among them were former Union junior minister Sudarshan Bhagat from Gumla (ST) and former Rajya Sabha MP Sameer Oraon from Bishunpur (ST) seat. Former BJP state chief Dineshanand Goswami was fielded from Baharagora.

BJP retained most of its outgoing MLAs in their respective seats but fielded Tara Devi in Sindri and Manju Devi in Jamua (SC). It benched Kanke MLA Samri Lal and fielded Jitu Charan Ram, who was MLA from 2014 to 2019.
