Close call: Guwahati-Kolkata flight suffers mid-air technical glitch; Alliance Air plane lands safely

NEW DELHI: An Alliance Air flight 9I756 on the Guwahati–Kolkata route was forced to return to Guwahati Airport after a mid-air technical snag. The airline confirmed that the aircraft landed safely and all the passengers were deboarded safely.

An internal probe has been launched to determine the cause.

In an official statement, the airline added that it remains committed to the highest standards of safety and ensures all aircraft undergo regular and rigorous maintenance checks before every departure.

A spokesperson for Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA), Guwahati, said a "full emergency" was declared on Wednesday afternoon but clarified that there was no impact on airport operations.

"Following the diversion of a GAU-CCU flight due to a technical snag, a full emergency was declared at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA), Guwahati, at 13:42 hours on 20 August 2025. The flight landed safely at 14:27 hours. Full Emergency was withdrawn at 14:40 hours," the LGBIA statement read.

The airport authorities confirmed that passengers were safely deboarded and assisted by terminal staff.
