NEW DELHI: The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday held a key strategy meeting to discuss the upcoming Vice-Presidential election following the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar. The meeting, chaired by defence minister Rajnath Singh was attended by all alliance floor leaders.
Following the discussions, the alliance unanimously passed a resolution authorising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president JP Nadda to finalise the NDA’s candidate for the Vice-President’s post. “The decision taken by the Prime Minister will be accepted by all alliance parties,” said Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju after the meeting.
Rijiju also announced the timeline for election process. The last date for filing nominations is August 21, while polling and counting will both take place on September 9.
