US President Donald Trump, on Tuesday, took a jab at longtime rival, New York Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, predicting that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of the “Squad” would defeat him if she runs against him in 2028.
“I saw a Palestinian senator, his name is Schumer. He’s a great Palestinian,” remarked Trump while referring to Chuck Schumer, who is actually the highest ranking Jewish official in the US governement, as reported by the New York Post.
“He’s become a Palestinian, he has abandoned the Jews,” said Trump while getting sidetracked during a discussion on the deadly Texas floods. Citing that the senate minority leader was prone to blame him for crises situations, Trump remarked on the top Senate Democrat’s demands for better conditions for Palestinians and his criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Speaking on Schumer and the recent devastating Texas floods Trump said, “ “This was Schumer, he goes, ‘Yeah, yeah, it’s Trump’s fault. That’s right, it’s Trump.’ “
Schumer had yesterday asked a government watchdog to look more into whether the Trump government’s cuts National Weather Service had in any way affected how the disaster was handled, as reported by Times of Israel.
“I actually saw that stupid guy try and blame [the Texas flooding] on me, and I said, ‘Man, that’s a tough one to take,’” said Trump referring to Schumer. “But his career is limited because I hear AOC is gonna beat him,” he added.
Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, 38 as well as Chuck Schumer, 74 have not yet announced their plans for the 2028 elections. Several polls have indicated that Schumer trails behind the Democratic socialist in a potential matchup. Ocasio-Cortez is also reportedly considering a run for president, as reported by the New York Post.
Discussion around Schumer’s electoral prospects has gained traction, with growing speculation about his ability to hold off potential challengers, including revolt within his own party. During the 2022 midterm election Ocasio-Cortez had refused to challenge Schumer.
Schumer had been previously issued a warning over his sharp criticism of Republican lawmakers in the context of the Trump administration’s “Big Beautiful Bill”. “Our colleagues of the Republican side lack courage of their convictions to do the right thing for the American people. It’s outrageous,” he had said.
