One student was killed and two others injured in a stabbing outside Santa Ana High School on Wednesday afternoon, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred around 3:25 p.m. just after classes had ended.
All three victims were male students; one died in hospital while the other two remain in stable condition. Police are searching for at least two suspects, believed to be high school students, though it remains unclear whether they attend Santa Ana High.
While the motive has not been confirmed, investigators suspect the violence may be gang-related. The Santa Ana Unified School District assured parents there is no ongoing threat to the school or surrounding community.
All after-school activities were cancelled following the incident, and crisis counsellors will be available for students on Thursday. Santa Ana, located about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles, is home to approximately 300,000 residents, and Santa Ana High School serves around 3,000 students.
