Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Monday questioned the basis of granting bail to former MP Prajwal Revanna in a rape case, asking how bail can be granted without convincing reasons when credible evidence exists against the accused.
Justice Pradeep Singh Yerur was hearing Prajwal’s second bail petition in connection with the rape case filed by a domestic worker.
Senior advocate Prabhuling K. Navadgi, appearing for Prajwal, argued that the alleged incident occurred in 2021, but the complaint was filed nearly four years later. He stated that the delay in lodging the complaint remained unexplained and questioned how such a case could proceed after so much time.
Special Public Prosecutor B.N. Jagadeesh opposed the plea, stating that there had been no significant change in circumstances since the Supreme Court had earlier rejected bail. He informed the court that four rape cases have been registered against Prajwal Revanna and added that although a stay exists on proceedings against some other accused, credible evidence specifically exists against Prajwal.
He argued that bail should not be granted unless special and valid reasons are provided.
The court allowed time for the prosecution to submit its objections and adjourned the matter to April 15.
