Tragic Road Accident in Chittorgarh Claims Lives 4 Devotees En Route to Sanwaliyaji Temple

Chittorgarh, April 21: In a heart-wrenching road mishap late Sunday night, four devotees from Madhya Pradesh lost their lives while three others sustained serious injuries. The accident occurred near the Jaliya check post on the Nimbahera-Chittorgarh four-lane highway in Rajasthan when a Scorpio SUV carrying the pilgrims veered out of control, crossed the divider, and collided head-on with an oncoming truck.

En Route to Sanwaliyaji Temple, Journey Turns Tragic

All occupants of the ill-fated vehicle were residents of Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh and were on a pilgrimage to the famous Sanwaliyaji Temple in Chittorgarh. According to police reports, the accident happened shortly after the SUV crossed into Rajasthan territory. The vehicle, reportedly speeding, lost balance, breached the median, and collided with a truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Immediate Response and Casualty Details

Upon receiving the alert, a police patrol team from Nimbahera rushed to the scene along with local residents to assist the injured. The victims were transported to Nimbahera District Hospital where four were declared dead on arrival. The deceased have been identified as:

  • Sanjay alias Sanju (42)

  • Gaurav (32)

  • Anil (18)

  • Rajesh alias Raja Chaudhary (Driver)

The injured — Deepak (39), Yogesh (20), and Sunil (28) — are currently undergoing treatment and are reported to be in critical condition.

Investigation and Aftermath

Deputy Superintendent of Police Badrilal Rao arrived at the hospital to assess the situation and check on the survivors. He confirmed that the road has been cleared and traffic resumed. The police have seized the damaged Scorpio and truck for further investigation. The bodies were sent for postmortem and will be handed over to the bereaved families after official procedures.

All seven victims were close friends traveling together for religious purposes. The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over their hometown in Ujjain and the pilgrimage community. Family members arrived at the hospital during the night upon learning of the incident.
